History

The property in which Caledon Hills Cycling and Bike Shop Cafe sits has a long history dating back to the 1800's. Built in 1882 by James Graham as Inglewood’s first General Store and Post Office with James serving as postmaster and selling items such as, coffee, tea, spices, tobacco, and hardware. In 1890 James sold the General Store to his brother David Graham, who then sold it to John Kaufman in 1913. The Kaufman family would go on to be the longest running family line of postmasters in Inglewood with 82 years ending in 1995. The Kaufman’s in 1968 sold to Bob Thompson who turned the store into a Lucky Dollar. Shortly after the sale of the store to Bob the Post Office was moved to its current location at 200 MacDonald Street. Ownership would change hands another six times between 1968 and 2020, with Caledon Hills Cycling being conceptualized in 1991 by Laura and Mike Watson in a shed on the back of the property. Eight years later in 1999 Caledon Hills Cycling would take over the building and move inside.
